Choosing to travel solo is the best decision I’ve ever made. Many people are nervous to step out by themselves into our sometimes crazy world, but there are so many amazing benefits to traveling solo.
Here are my top 6 greatest reasons to travel solo:
1. You choose whatever destination you like.
At the very beginning of organising your solo adventure you can decide to do whatever you want. Would you like to visit some amazing historical sites? Do it! Want to frolic on a beach and work on your tan? Yes! Or would you prefer to luxuriate in a ridiculously over the top hotel with staff waiting on you hand and foot? Whatever it is you can book it.
2. Your confidence will grow beyond anything you could imagine.
Stepping out of your comfort zone is scary for anyone. Stepping out of it alone in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language is terrifying. But succeeding is amazing. Learning your strengths and weaknesses, pushing your boundaries and conquering your fears is an amazing achievement. The confidence and independence you’ll develop whilst on the road solo can not be achieved in any other way – and it will lead to incredible happiness.
3. Be bold and leave the person you are at home behind.
Traveling solo is the best way to discover who you are and become the person you want to be. No one on the road knows you, and you can live your best self. Be bold and do things that you would never normally do. Whether that’s starting a conversation with a stranger, dining alone at a restaurant or becoming the social butterfly you always wanted to be, traveling solo allows you to leave everything behind if you that’s what you want.
4. You make millions of friends.
Breaking into social groups can be difficult. Couples and established groups of friends emit a tough social vibe to join, however unintentional. Solo travelers don’t have this issue. A single traveler is so much more approachable to other single travekers, whether it be in a hostel, on an organised tour or just walking through a city. Traveling solo forces you to open up to new people and experiences, and the result of this is wonderful interactions with new and interesting strangers who quickly become friends.
5. Do whatever you like with your day.
Are you someone who likes making the most out of everyday day? Exploring as much as you possibly can with the time you have, no matter how exhausted you get? Or do you prefer to relax with a book on a beach, in a cafe or in bed?
When you travel solo you can do all of those things. If you’re really keen to go exploring, find yourself a free walking tour or adventure out on your own. If you feel like do nothing with your day and just hanging around the wifi on Facebook and watching movies, no problem do that. Traveling solo means the only person you need to keep happy, is you.
6. Eat whatever you want.
Some days, you just need to eat cake for breakfast. Whilst traveling solo you can indulge in whatever food you like completely guilt free. There’s no one to judge you. If you have a night overindulging on alcohol, eat yourself stupid in an amazing French patisserie or need to have a cheap day by living on Oreo’s and Pringles you can. And it’s very likely you’ll be surrounded by other travelers who are also indulging in the same way.
