Currently I am in Cinque Terre and staying in a nice hostel by the name of Ostello Tramonti. Situated in Biassa which is technically not part of Cinque Terre, Ostello Tramonti is nestled in the hills above the first of the 5 coastal towns – Riomaggiore. As Biassa is only a very small area that barely qualifies as a town, the hostel offers a complimentary shuttle service morning and night into Riomaggiore. This is a huge perk of staying here as the public buses only run once an hour and take far longer than the private shuttle. It’s an easy 10 min drive and there are multiple times available morning and night.
I am staying in a 4 bed female dorm room and am impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the hostel. The sheets, pillows, beds and rooms are clean, the shared bathrooms not amazing, but still clean and have decent hot water showers. For me, cleanliness is the make or break for a hostel regardless of its other facilities, and Ostello Tramonti passes with flying colours 🙂
The staff are also extremely friendly and helpful, offering information on everything from how to get to the different areas of Cinque Terre, free shuttle times, and what is best to see and when.
On the top floor of the hostel (level 2) there is a nice common room with quality wifi (hence my ability to write this post) as well as TV (which has been playing a lot of the world cup), refrigerator, and staff kitchen that provides meals at an average price (5 euro for pizza or bowl of pasta) and will happily loan plates, bowls knives and forks for people who wish to prepare their own meals.
I am currently doing BusAbout and this is not one of the recommended hostels as they don’t actually provide one. However I was able to book through Hostels.com and reserved the 4 bed female dorm for 21 euro per night. I have heard since staying here from other BusAbout travelers that I am lucky to have a place here as it is apparently quite popular. I booked back in April before I left Australia to ensure that I would have somewhere decent to stay as I am here for 4 nights. The BusAbout passengers that I have spoken with tried to book 2 days in advance which was not a possibility, so my advice – book asap.
